Derek Jeter is NOT a good captain.

I am a Yankees fan. I was probably one before I was born. However, there is nothing anyone can say that would make me believe Derek Jeter is a good captain for the team. I believe and he has shown he is too much of a competitor to put aside his own goals/feelings for the good of the team. And the facts that the Yankees have not won a world series since Jeter became captain and that the year he was made captain was the very last year we made it to the playoffs speaks for itself! After giving it some thought I have decide I will be nominating Jorge Pasada for the captain position. While older Jorge would bring a quite strength to a team that he has always shown his loyalty to.

  1. You couldn't be more wrong. Jeter is a great captain. Your argument that he cannot put aside "his own goals/feelings" makes no sense. Jeter's only goal on the field is to win. If you think that a desire to win hurts the team, I don't know what to say. Also, your point that the Yankees have not made the playoffs since Jeter was made captain is just plain wrong. Jeter was made captain in 2003. The Yankees were in the World Series that year. They went on to make the playoffs the following 4 seasons; 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. I grant you that Jeter may not be the most out-spoken captain the Yankees have had, but don't overlook his leadership-by-example and what he does in the clubhouse, off camera. I agree Jorge would also be a deserving captain, but on a team with Derek Jeter, the face of these Yankees and a future Hall of Famer, Posada will never be the Yankees captain.
